Who Needs Occupational Therapy?
Quick answer: people of all ages! Occupational therapy isn’t just for one age or stage. It’s for anyone looking to live better – children, older adults, people with disabilities or mobility issues, people recovering from injuries. Here’s how Connect Allied’s occupational therapy helps:
Children
Does your child struggle with tying their shoelaces or self-feeding? Occupational therapy helps develop fine motor skills, sensory stimulation, and independence. From difficulty with self-care to challenges in social interaction, our therapy services support growth and confidence.
Older Adults
Aging shouldn’t mean losing independence. Our occupational therapists recommend home modifications, assistive technologies, and strategies to support daily living. Whether it’s reducing fall risks or improving motor skills, we’re here to keep you active and safe.
People with Disabilities
At Connect Allied Health, we support those with disabilities by helping them manage sensory input and build skills for everyday tasks. Whether they have autism, cerebral palsy, or physical limitations, we provide occupational therapy services that empower them.
People Recovering from Injuries
Recover faster, live better. Whether it’s a traumatic brain injury, stroke, or broken bones, Connect Allied Health occupational therapy helps restore mobility and independence. We’ve come through for thousands in Adelaide. With functional capacity assessment and personalised plans, we help rebuild your life step by step with tailored interventions.
Our Occupational Therapy for Adults
At Connect Allied Health, our occupational therapy for adults helps you regain or maintain independence by addressing physical, sensory, cognitive, and emotional challenges caused by injury, illness, or disability.
- Are you struggling with activities of daily living (ADLs), such as dressing or cooking? We provide tailored therapy services to help.
- Living with arthritis or Parkinson’s? Our strategies help improve mobility and reduce pain.
- Are you recovering from a stroke or spinal cord injury? Connect Allied Health supports your journey back to strength.
- Facing cognitive decline from dementia or brain injuries? We implement memory and problem-solving exercises that keep your mind sharp.

At Connect Allied Health, we focus on empowering seniors– physically challenged and working-class adults – to regain control and live life fully across South Australia. Let’s take the next step together.

Our Occupational Therapy for Children
Our pediatric occupational therapists are passionate about working with children and are skilled in targeting the following areas:
- Gross Motor Skills: Whole-body movements involving the large core-stabilising muscles to perform everyday functions such as standing, walking, running, and sitting upright. This also includes hand-eye coordination, e.g., throwing, catching, and kicking.
- Fine Motor Skills: Coordination of hands and fingers for tasks such as doing up buttons and zips, using pencils, writing, and tying shoelaces.
- Sensory Processing: How the brain receives, organises, and responds to sensory input to enable meaningful and consistent behaviour, e.g., sensitivities to loud noises or bright lights, movement-seeking behaviours, and meltdowns.
- Social Skills: Play-based interventions enhance creativity and problem-solving abilities and foster positive social engagement.
- Emotional Regulation: Using purposeful everyday activities to improve emotional understanding, boost self-esteem, and address social-emotional challenges.
We also help your children with attention and concentration difficulties. Connect Allied Health helps them get better at self-care, e.g., toileting and dressing, while educating parents and caregivers.
Your Child May Benefit From Occupational Therapy If They:
- Have difficulty walking appropriately by the second year of age.
- Have difficulties holding a crayon with their thumb and finger (not fist)
- Cannot eat without assistance by the age 2 or 3.
- Have difficulty snipping paper with scissors by age 3 to 4
- Are unable to kick a ball forward by 4 years of age.
- Struggle to write their name by 4–5 years of age.
- Cannot draw basic pictures by 5–6 years of age.
Our occupational therapists at Connect Allied help children develop strategies to overcome these challenges, support their overall growth and eliminate developmental delays.

Yes, occupational therapy is covered by the NDIS. It can be added to a participant’s NDIS plan under the “Capacity Building” funding category. This means eligible individuals can access occupational therapy services through the NDIS to support their daily living activities and independence. As an NDIS registered provider, Connect Allied Health helps you access NDIS-funded therapy services for gross motor skills, home modifications, and personalised therapy plans.

An assessment for functional capacity in Adelaide typically costs between $700 and $2,000. The cost depends on the assessment’s complexity, the evaluation length, and whether the client is accessing NDIS funding. On the other hand, NDIS participants generally pay around $193.99 per hour for an Occupational Therapist’s assessment, which can add up to a total cost of around $2,000 for a comprehensive report.
Our occupational therapy helps people with autism handle self-care, sensory processing, emotional regulation, and social skills. It also helps achieve independence in daily tasks, managing sensory input and enhancing fine motor skills.
